240D with rear drive issue
The tractor can only move with front drive. Rear wheels will not drive tractor with front disengaged. If I use the differential lockout the rear wheels will turn, but only then. What is the troubleshooting procedure for finding out what's wrong?
Re: 240D with rear drive issue
I would suspect broken final reduction pinion shaft. Jack the rear end up, making sure you are in two wheel drive only, mash the differential lock and likely only one wheel will turn. The other side will have a broken shaft.

I agree. Probably one of the highlighted is broken. Usually happens when someone is stuck and they step on the diff lock pedal while one wheel is spinning.

Thanks, will try it and see.
Re: 240D with rear drive issue
With differential locked, I was able to get only one wheel to spin on a slippery slope, so skipped the jacking up of the rear end. Looks like it's the left side where the problem lies. Tractor's going to the mechanic today. Will let everyone know what he discovers.
