FX24D has no power but will turn over

Postby kmuse0228 » Fri Apr 13, 2018 6:43 am

I was recently repairing my marker lights as they had come disconnected after bushhogging. When testing them the tractor was running and then suddenly died and now dash and all electronics wont come on and fuel shut off solenoid is also not disengaging. I have checked the main ground, the battery connections, and checked the fuse panel and have had no luck.

No way to know without on-site wiring inspection. You will need a schematic and a VOM. Could be anywhere.

As Norm said you will need to trace with a test light or meter and see where you are losing power. There is a fusible link in the main power wire from the starter going to the fuse box that it could be. Of course something would have had to cause the fuse to blow so be on the lookout for that also.

You say the engine still cranks over, so you should probably be able to release the fuel shut-off solenoid by hand, or apply 12v directly, and get the tractor running in a pinch..

You say the engine still cranks over,

Oops I missed that detail (hiding in the giant bold topic title). :D If it cranks over then it wouldn't be the fusible link.

EDIT: ... or is he saying it will turn over by hand as in- not locked up?

Thank you for the ideas. I have not yet tried to manually actuate the Fuel shut off but will to confirm that it's not the issue. I have lost all electrically controlled items. I am unsure how it would have caused it to pop. I turned the right signal on and it worked great went to the left and didn't turn on and then suddenly the motor stopped as if I had turned it off. Not sure what could have caused that as nothing else was touched but the marker light wires.

Have you checked to be sure your fuses are getting good connection (rusty sockets / loose terminal)? The shutoff solenoid requires 12v to shut off the tractor (if you unhook the battery cable with the tractor running- it will stay running) so it sounds like maybe just the ignition switch has lost power somehow?

I thought that was the case but I am still able to crank the motor with the key just no fuel or electronics come on. I will attempt to check the ignition to see if may the On switch is missing but the start and off are still good.

Apparently I have misunderstood how the fuel solenoid works. I assumed it needed 12v to maintain fuel flow, and shutting off ignition would drop out the solenoid and kill fuel flow.

Problem solved. It ended up being a bad connection on the fuses. I worked my way through all the wiring with the meter till I found it. but a new problem started my charge light on the dash will not turn off now.

Does your meter show you are charging?

yes its showing that its charging by checking just the battery and then again when the tractor is running. I recently redid the wiring to it with weatherproof connectors and dont believe I switched the wires but there is always that chance but Im not sure why that would show that its constantly charging.

What is showing that it is constantly charging?
