oops!

Postby jd123 » Sat May 07, 2011 10:14 am

Apparently, it has been a quick 5 years with births of my two kids, etc.

Got around to changing all my tractor (F16D) fluids. I looked at my records and realized 150hrs and 5 years have passed.... :(

The front axle and hyd oil looked clean...oil black...but it's a diesel... :o

I see recommendations for 100 hrs or annually. I put on about 25hrs/yr. Was thinking doing eng oil 1/yr and the rest every 3 yrs...what do you think?

Also, is 5 year old eng oil and 150 hrs big deal?

I used to work on a huge corp farm...tractors worked 24/7...and we put on at least 70-150 hrs/week on those jd, cats, etc. I can tell you those machines were not serviced every couple weeks....

I do oil (Amsoil) and filter at the end of every season. Comes out to under 50 hours for the most part, but that's as far as I'll let it go.

I wouldn't worry much about the extended drain one time. We all know by now that the drain intervals manufacturers have set for years had nothing to do with the life of the oil, it was all about billing opportunities.
