RS1303 tiller drive chain

Postby Zeke2422 » Mon Mar 23, 2020 2:17 pm

I have an rs1303 tiller. I need to replace the drive chain. Of course nobody has any idea where to find parts for a tiller this old. Does anyone know where I can't find the chain or does anyone know what size the chain is? Nobody around here can match it up. I've been told it's bigger than a #60 and smaller than a #80. Has anyone used #80 and had it work? Is it close enough pitch wise to work. I found a pic of the chain online and it had "70SA" stamped on it. I can't find anyone who has even heard of a #70 chain. Any help would be fantastic!

Probably no help but I can tell you the part number for the chain on an RS1404 tiller is 195230-13280 and in the description column it has 745x46. I am guessing 46 links and maybe the 745 the chain size although it doesn't seem to show up.

Have you read this thread? viewtopic.php?t=7045

Thanks for your reply Winston. I did read that thread before posting. The chain has 23 links. I know a #60 chain will definitely not work for my tiller. (too small) The tiller model referenced in that thread must have had a smaller chain. #80 is a little closer but still will not fit. I've been told by multiple Yanmar dealers that the chain was only produced for Yanmar and you can only get it from Yanmar. Of course they stopped making parts for this tiller many years ago. I guess my only option is to try and change the sprockets to match a different chain. Problem is that the sprockets are splined so it will have to be custom made. Most likely more work and money than it's worth.

Are the upper and lower shaft spines the same? Do you know the shaft size and spline count? I imagine the shaft sizes are metric but only guessing.

Noticing 23 doubled equals 46, maybe 46 pins?? I sure don't know, just sure that 46 in the description field is bound to mean something.
