yanmar 4x4 Driveline Boot leaking

Postby RickyD » Mon Mar 23, 2020 10:49 am

my 2020D has a leak of oil at the boot that seals the front and rear diff driveline. I have tried several different clamps but it still drips. I am sure I could eventually fix the drip but my big question is, is there even supposed to be oil in there ? Do I have a seal leaking at either end? Is the boot supposed to just be a dust seal ?

There should not be oil in there. The boots are just a dust boots. If the leaking oil is transmission oil then the output seal is leaking. If gear oil then your 4wd pinion seal is leaking.

Not what I wanted to hear but at least now I know what I am up against. It must be tranny oil as it is thinner and not stinky like gear oil. Any idea if the seal is an easy fix with minimal disassembly?

Here is a thread by a lady with pictures that should be very helpful to you. Your tractor would be very similar. About 4 pages but well worth your time to look through it. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3578
