Overheating/blowing oil out of exhaust stack

Postby andymac0162 » Mon Mar 16, 2020 4:11 am

My yanmar 1601 has just started overheating , so I checked the water, stopped the radiator up but when I started it up the expansion tank lid blew off and the overflow from the radiator was blowing the water out, I checked the oil to see if there were water getting into engine but the oil was ok, when I put my hand over the exhaust stack I was getting oil spits blowing up, what could this be , please

It sounds like you have a blown headgasket and water (mixing with soot to form an oil residue) or oil is getting into the exhaust.

Mine doesn’t seem to overheat, gauge stays low, if this can be trusted? probably due to it being winter here but it pushes water up into the expansion bottle. Ok for short light duty’s but pushes it to the top of the bottle if worked harder for longer.

I ran mine for some months without over heating with a blown head gasket, just kept getting more and more soot in the coolant. Don't recommend doing it though.

Can anyone help with a list of parts I need to order to replace the head gasket?
I need to order to the UK so buying it all in one go from the US is easier with postage costs. There isn’t any parts stockists in the UK I can find.
Thanks

I would suggest you email Hoye and get their help. https://www.hoyetractor.com/contact.htm

I would recommend if possible do your tear down and then order parts. No surprises that way.
