Oil in valve cover?

Postby jimjumper » Sun Feb 23, 2020 3:58 pm

After a history of hard starting, probably from the previous owner using starter fluid, I decided to attempt a rebuild of at least the top end. I have never attempted anything this ambitious before but I just retired and I have the time and a working tractor so I can take as long as I need to for the project. I just got all the small parts off and took off the valve cover just to see what the valves look like. How much oil is usually in the valve cover? I haven't drained the oil yet so maybe I am jumping the gun but does the picture look excessive?

No, that is not excessive, there would be a lot more in there while she is running.
