Fuel tank repair

Postby Threeweight » Wed Jan 22, 2020 2:49 pm

My Yanmar 1500D has a small triangular chunk missing from the top of the filler neck on the fuel tank, roughly 1/8" tall by 1/8" wide. Not huge, but big enough that if I fill the tank above half full and/or operate the tractor on rough ground I will get some fuel sloshing out, and end up with dust and gunk stuck to the tractor below it.

Anyone know if there is a plastic patch product that will stick to the plastic on the original (circa 1978) tank? Other than this tiny notch, the tank is in decent shape and works fine.

There are numerous ways to repair plastic. Welding is one of them I have successfully used. Different ways to approach it. If my attach doesn't work just go to youtube and search fuel tank repair. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... nk+repair+

Yup, I have welded up all sorts of plastic stuff over the years. I just use a regular soldering iron but I see Harbor Freight even sells an inexpensive plastics welder.
