FX22D no charge when regulator is grounded

Postby Glitch » Fri Jan 17, 2020 7:12 pm

like the topic says if I unground the regulator i get 13.7 Volts at the battery If I ground it the light come on and the volts at the battery bounces 11.2 and 12.3 volts. does this mean regulator is bad? or a short to ground some were? does it need to be grounded? everything works fine i am just not used to a generator type alternator. any one have a line on a FX22D repair manual?

Does the normal mounting make it appear the regulator is suppose to be grounded?

This is over my head. I does sound like you could run with it ungrounded and be ok. However, I doubt it was designed to be that way.
