Aaron and Winston,

Ok hopefully last question. Aaron was kind enough to send me a new knuckle cover with the knuckle seal already installed as well as the knuckle cover seal and bearing. My question is from looking at the red 4wd internal drawing and seeing the placement of the LH top knuckle washer, is the seal shown below it (part 50) the one already installed in my cover? There is not one on the spindle shaft and I do not recall taking one off. Otherwise it looks like the washer will be riding metal on metal. Hope this isn't to confusing. Hoping Aaron remembers the install and can help.

Thanks,
Paul Mott, ( In case Aaron needs to look up the order

Hi Paul,
Yes, #50 is the seal already installed in the cover.

Aaron, thanks for the quick reply on my last post. So I am attempting to get everything back together and I forgot the trick to getting the gearbox and the axel gear to mesh. I have a jack under the gear box and have tried every angle and height, not sure why they won't mesh.. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Winston,

Saw you were online. Any thoughts on my question about getting the gears to mesh on the left side of my 1500D after knuckle seal replacement?

thanks in advance for any thoughts,
Paul

Clarify which gears you are talking about for me. Maybe #s on the drawing.

Winston,

I hope this helps:

On the external drawing I am raising #39 Lower left hand knuckle housing up into the knuckle cover to mesh #54 and 44 to complete the repair. I remember from last time it would only fit one way but I can't seem to find that way.
Any help would be appreciated,
Paul

other than turning a small amount to allow teeth to match I don't know. Are you confident it is the gears holding it apart and not the seal trying to start on? How much does it lack going up?

Winston,

It is about a 3/4" gap between the upper and lower. Using your thought about the seal starting I took the whole unit off the tractor and made sure the top and bottom were line up. Put the Unit back on and using a jack , I basically lifted the whole front end in hopes that the pressure would make the units come together properly but it did not move more than a 1/4". I can't figure out why it won't go together. Any further thoughts on how to?

I don't have an answer for you. I don't think forcing it with a jack is the answer. Are you confident that top bearing is correct? (6204) Assuming the spindle shaft is sticking through the top enough so you can wiggle or move it a little as you try to move upward with the assembly?

Winston,

Aaron installed the top bearing for me so it should be right. However, the lower unit will not even go up into the knuckle cover far enough to engage the drive gear in it. And yes the spindle does go up and through the knuckle cover. I noticed on the other side their is about a 1/4" gap showing between the upper and lower unit so I assume I am about a 1/2" from getting the left side sealed. I am at a loss, I hope Aaron can help me, big snow coming in the next couple of days and need to have this back together and working. thanks for your thoughts.

These types of things are very difficult to diagnose from a distance. Pictures might help though. I would try to assemble it with different pieces taken out to see what part is causing the holdup.
