1977 Yanmar 2210 2 wheel dr.

Yanmar2210 gray market 1977 model all is great about this tractor as I have had it for several years, except, when the lift is raised and the valve is open or partially closed the implement "JUMPS" until I slow the engine to an idle. Also the lift drops when the engine has been shut off. what??

You have leakage in your hydraulic lift system, could be lift piston, control valve, relief valve, etc. If you close the round knob between your knees with the lift up, then kill the tractor and see if the lift drops. If so, likely the lift piston leaking by.

when I raise it all the way up and close the round valve then kill the engine it stays up. when I open the round valve it comes down. the descent lever is in mid position and I am using a 4 foot garden tiller, with the engine at working r.p.ms when I raise the tiller up, it "jumps" until I throttle it back to an idle.

You need to change the lift piston o-ring. https://www.hoyetractor.com/PROD/24311-000650.htm

The reason it jumps is because the control valve is constantly trying to keep the lift at the set point.

I would inspect before buying a hone. A little light emery cloth by hand might be plenty. Might not need anything.
