Head retorque, only the once?

Postby Crump » Fri Jun 21, 2019 3:58 pm

Hi, I have just done a head gasket replacement after getting the head on my 1610D machined and rebuilt, and have run it for a couple of hours now with no issues and retorqued to spec with no discernible movement of the head bolts when I did so. My question is, is re-torquing the bolts once enough? thanks guys.

I'm no expert but have been doing the very same thing as you recently. Hoye suggests retorque after a heating/cooling cycle, https://www.hoyetractor.com/head-gasket.htm It took 3 heating/cooling cycles for my bolts to stop needing a retorque. This thread suggested to keep repeating until not needed anymore, http://ymowners.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6799&start=60#p32033, and I believe it's the same model tractor as yours. Good luck.
