FX28D won’t go into gear

Postby Jamblackwell » Wed Jun 05, 2019 4:56 am

I inherited an old Yanmar FX28D tractor and was using a brush hog to mow a small field. It was getting low on fuel so I stopped to fill it up and now when I put it in gear and let out the clutch nothing happens. I thought maybe I lost something in the transmission so I drained it and cleaned the filter and replaced the spin on filter. Didn’t see much in the way of metal in the screen filter. Has anyone had this happen?

No, tractor won’t go into gear and the pto doesn’t turn.

If your PTO does not work then it is something mechanical (not hydraulic or powershift related). If your clutch is adjusted correctly then most likely either the clutch has failed or the splined coupler between the clutch & transmission has stripped
