Crack in transmission housing

Postby Joe10 » Wed May 01, 2019 9:20 am

I have a 276d which has a hairline crack in the transmission housing, right where the right side foot platform bolts to the transmission, the bolt nearest the rear of the tractor.
It looks like at some point there was an impact on the foot platform which caused the stress in that area
Leaks a small amount of fluid.
See attached picture, the crack is running horizontally, with oil running down vertically. It's not a great picture, I will upload a clearer one later with area cleaned.
First thing I want to do is remove the bolt to take weight of that area and prevent further damage.
Are these housings cast or aluminium? Looking for advice on how to go about repairing.
Thanks

The housings are cast iron. You can weld them with a special nickle rod but it will not be as strong as the original. I can't really tell where the crack is located but you will definitely want to build a subframe to span that area. I would do something like this-->

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=984&hilit=sub+frame
