Not sure if I should have started a new thread or added to my old one, I changed the fluid and cleaned the screen in my tractor hoping to fix this problem, which is no reverse at all. It started out as an off and on problem, but now it will never go into reverse, the forward gears work fine. It's the power shift transmission. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Assuming nothing wrong with your shifting linkage then I would suspect the main relief valve. Taking this idea out of a 226 service manual trouble shooting section. Might check the spring and for trash.

Is the shifting linkage all external, or do I have to remove something to see it? Is there a diagram or photo?
Is there a parts list that goes with the numbers on this diagram? They are not all listed on the hoye tractor website.
Just wanted to let everyone know, it was a worn gear shift lever, to much play and not enough room in the slot in the cover.
I am having a similar problem that I have to shift into reverse several times before it will actually work. My shifter has a definite grove in it where the plate is and have wondered if a file. take a little off the plate so the shifter can come back another 1/8th inch, is the answer or if I should dig deeper to address the actual cause of the behavior.
