Yanmar 2001D 4X4

Postby Yanmar918 » Sat Feb 02, 2019 6:26 pm

I put a clutch pressure plate and throwout bearing in my tractors when I bought it the rear tires were locked up and we had to drag it up onto the trailer like it was stuck in gear I got it all back together jacked up the rear end up and put it on jackstands when I put it in gear the right rear wheel will turn but not the left but when I set it back down on the ground and try to put it in gear it does not move
I do have the driveshaft out that connects to front wheel drive to the rear would that have anything to do with it not moving I have the lever on 2 Wheel Dr.
Even with the clutch depressed the rear wheels will not turn any help would be appreciated

I would guess it is in two gears at the same time. Might try removing the shifing mechanism and have a look. The differential is what allows you to turn one wheel when jacked up. If you mash the differential lock you won't be able to turn either wheel.

After further investigation I pulled the breaks out and both sides were corroded and locked up so I had the drums turned put all new brake shoes on and put it all back together and now the real rear wheels spin freely but still when I started put it in gear and let out the clutch it bogs the motor down and if I let the clutch out all the way the motor will die like under a load
I It feels like it’s in gear but when I let out on the clutch something is holding it

I also do not have the driveshaft in to the front wheels I wouldn’t think that would matter or does it

Still sounds like transmission in more than one gear.

I haven’t ever even drove this tractor it has a forward shifter and a rear shifter. Should each one be in a gear ?
Or should only one be in a gear I was thinking that the rear one set the total speed from creep up and the front one acts like a normal shifter

You have a range shifter (rear one) which I believe you have 2 ranges and then you have a gear shifter with 3 forward and 1 reverse. Both have to be in gear at the same time.

I think I know what I did in between changing the clutch and doing the brakes was trying to figure out why the rear wheels were locked up I took the top of the front shifter case off to look in there and when I put it back together I don’t think I got one of the two forks back on the bearing where it goes
I tore down last night and almost put back together I should know for sure today after work for sure but I’m pretty confident that that’s what was wrong

Well now I got the shifter forks where they go I started it and tried putting it in gear and all I could hear was gears grinding like the clutch wasn’t pulled in at all
the pedal feels like nothing is connected to it no resistance I’m going to pull the dash and steering box back out and look to see that thro out bearing is moving
In a car clutch set up there is a fork that goes around the throw out bearing is that the way this works also ?

Have you got the steering unit off? How are you seeing the throw out bearing? If you are seeing it through the steering box opening can you tell whether it is pushing against the clutch fingers?

It’s not pushing on the clutch fingers
