Air in fuel supply line coming from the injection pump.

Postby hinzec » Mon May 07, 2018 9:43 am

I have a Yanmar YMG2000D It will run for a few minutes lose power and die. I have installed a clear line from the fuel filter to the injection pump. You can see very tiny bubbles coming out of the injection pump and collecting in the high spot in the fuel supply line until it dies. I bleed the air out and it starts right up and runs fine until the line fills with air again. Any ideas?

It looks like he is saying the air is originating from the injection pump side. I have seen that before. Seems like we had to get the injection pump rebuilt but I can't remember exactly what inside had failed.

That is exactly whats happening. I can plainly see air coming from the pump, filling the clear fuel line until it dies. bleed the air out and it starts right up, until it happen again.

I asked my mechanic and he said he just replaced the injection pump when that happened. Something inside the pump had failed causing the bubbles. We had another good used pump there so he just put it on and the engine ran great.

Good eye, as usual Aaron. It does look like there are numerous places that could leak air inside the pump.
