wont move

Postby DMG2076 » Mon May 07, 2018 8:17 am

I have a F24D that I have owned since 1996 and have had no troubles with it. The other day I was using it to pull a small shed on a solid drive way and tractor stopped moving. I had nothing in way of movement. I moved range selector to 2 and back to 1 and tractor moved like normal. Moved shed for a good distance, not very heavy and I have worked this thing way harder, and unhooked it and moved tractor to other side. Got off to rehook and when I went to move tractor had nothing. All ranges checked, all gears checked, even tried with stepping on diff lock. PTO engages fine and when clutch is depressed PTO stops spinning. Any suggestions?

I don't have an answer for you. If the pto still turns with power would probably remove the top transmission cover and have a look inside. #4 here.
If nothing found then move on back.

Does front wheel drive work? If not, would suspect range selector lever. If so, probably rear ring and pinion.

Thanks Winston, I finally got it back home and in my shop. Got it sitting close the the work bench cause I have a feeling this may be a project. I'll keep you posted.

Norm, no it does nothing with 4 wheel locked in. I'm kind of thinking range selector also.

I don't have an answer for you about splitting. My guess is that you would have to split. Do you have a parts manual and can you identify exactly what is broken? Assuming there is a broken shaft there?

No parts manual. Was going to order one cause there are some other parts I would like to get also while I have it torn apart. It appears that the bearing at the rear of that shaft went out and allowed it to fall out of place. It doesn't appear that the shaft is broken or has any bad teeth.

Your probably correct on that Winston. But I'm sure it will get done sooner or later. Probably gonna paint it while I got fenders and seat pan off and do a small restore with some new parts. Have had it for 21 years and other than a battery or two this has been the only problem so hopefully another 20 years before anything else. Thanks for all your advice and I will surely keep this post updated.
