hydraulics surging on FX24D

Postby kmuse0228 » Wed Apr 18, 2018 6:53 am

When 3pt is raised with any load it the hydraulics will bounce. No bounce on the FEL though but the surging is visible on the hydraulic lines. 3 Pt hitch has been checked to verify its not a rock shaft or the valve assembly. where else could air get in to cause the surging.

Begin by cleaning your pickup screen.

Not there to look at it but I would suspect if you watch your 3 point you will see it go down just a hair and then it will suddenly raise back. Might be air but check it and see if it is acting that way. If so, your lift piston, control valve or whatever is leaking just a tad. If not causing a big problem just keep on trucking. My two cents.

Pick up screen cleaned replaced the hydraulic filter. I do have a leak on one of my bucket cylinders. Can the draft control cause any of that as I do have it on mine?

Where is the control valve located and is it adjustable?

Leak on your bucket cylinder will not affect your 3 point doing what it is doing. Does it do as I described in my last post??

It does raise back up after slightly dropping and that's what makes me think it is the control valve trying to hold the 3 pt and it keeps dropping. I can hear the surging in the pump which makes me think that its air in the system. I've checked the fluid level and it is within the lines on the stick. I adjusted my return line as it was starting to cave in due to a pinch and that helped a little along with new fluid after the filter and screen change. Just trying to get it straight so that it doesn't become a much bigger problem down the road.

Might try raising your lift, close the stop valve, lower the lift control handle and watch the lift to see if it holds position or how fast it drifts down. All this with a load on it.

Your control valve is located inside the 3 point lift housing.

I am going to replace the suction hose as it is old and may be leaking air even though it has been adjusted and tightened. I checked the fluid level and there was a considerable amount of foam which would tell me an air leak somewhere in the system.

I'm using JD 303. When I bought it the previous owner stated it needed the screen cleaned. He stated the surging was from a dirty screen.

I was reviewing my service manual and in it there was a trouble shoot section on 3pt going up and down and said to adjust the eccentric pin. I am unable to locate that part anywhere on my diagrams.

Have you looked over all the 3 point control linkage for an eccentric?
