Throttle

Postby dljcorbett » Wed Mar 07, 2018 2:11 pm

Hi There,

I know little about mechanics but am trying to figure out an issue with my yanmar tractor. The throttle acts like it is stuck open, the tractor fires up as normal but is in full speed however the throttle isn't stuck. Someone stated there could be a piece in the fuel pump stuck open. Problem is I live in the middle of no where, finding someone to come out is difficult but I have a neighbor than can help if I am able to figure out the problem a bit better - anyone know what to check or have any ideas? Thanks

What model tractor do you have?

Unlikely but just in case -- are you referring to the foot throttle (which self-releases), not knowing about the hand throttle (which stays where it was last left)?

Sounds like your injector pump rack might be stuck. Model number might help.

The tractor is a yanmar 240D if that makes sense.

The hand throttle moves just fine and even when placed on the lowest position, the tractor acts like it is in the highest position (full throttle). The inspection plate om the throttle was opened and found to be moving back and forth but the tractor is not responding.

Not sure what you are calling the "inspection plate" on the throttle. #21 on this parts drawing is the injection pump rack. The little pin on it attaches to the governor linkage. Is this what you checked for free movement? https://www.hoyetractor.com/CTGY/YM2000INJPUMP.htm

#30 here is the plate for inspection. https://www.hoyetractor.com/CTGY/YM2000BLOCK.htm

Likely a stuck rack.

If it has a foot throttle and it is not restoring to the "up" position, (broken spring or bind), it will do as you mention. Follow the chain of parts and you will find the problem.
