Sleeve clearance

Postby Hnewman144 » Sat Feb 17, 2018 12:49 pm

Is there supposed to be a certain clearance for the sleeves where they meet the top of the block, or bottom of the head? I installed new sleeves in my ym1500 and one of the seems to stick up a hair more than the other. You can't see it but you can feel it. I tapped on it some more with a clean wood block and a hammer but it will not go down anymore. Not sure if this will cause a problem or not.

I can tell you a 155 is suppose to have .0019 to .0051". I can only guess your 1500 should be about the same.

The 195 (1700) is to have .0028 to .0059".

Your 1500 is in between these two in size.

Why are they not cut exactly to fit the block? I ended up getting them tapped down more but how would they stick up to far if they are precision cut?

You could mike the tops vs the surface so you know how thick that hair is (which I do before pulling the old sleeves), and if it's within a thou I'd not worry. (The likely cause is use-related engine distortion, not irregs in sleeve mfr. )
