Fuel additive

Postby jake1980 » Sat Jan 13, 2018 8:56 pm

I have a 1300d. It does not have glow plugs, or none that I or anyone else can find. Any way it is hard to start after sitting for about 1 week. Lots of black smoke as it sits and cranks. Once it starts the black smoke disappears. Should I add some type of additive to the fuel to clean out the fuel system. If so , what additive?

Aaron has stated in other threads that the thermostart was an option on the 1300.. Don't think any of the 1300's had glow plugs. https://www.hoyetractor.com/thermostart.htm

If not, you could add it. https://www.hoyetractor.com/PROD/TS-KIT.htm

What kind of ambient temperature are you dealing with?

You can get them but I wouldn't use a dump-in additive or especially a spray-in chemical. If you're using fuel you've stored since last summer, most suppliers provide slightly different seasonal formulations.

Diesels need a fast spin. Is the battery strong enough? If there's a decompression control, are you using it? Is your engine oil multiweight diesel like 15/40?

The other starting aid is a heater in the block or rad hose. Or just warm the oil pan with a heat lamp or a magnetic heat plug, maybe on a timer.
