How can I troubleshoot the generator and voltage regulator. The battery is not charging.

Unplug the altenator and check the voltage with a AC tester.

You should have AC voltge at the two wires coming out of the dynamo. 90% of the time the charging problems are caused by the regulator though--

depending on how many wires your existing regulator has.

My 1301D was doing the same thing. My regulator actually got hot enough to start smoking. New regulator from Hoye Tractor and all was well again.
