Yanmar 1401 starter
My 1401 I am working on the starter kept grinding really bad so I got a new one put it on and it is still grinding really bad. I have not pulled the tractor apart yet to see about the fly wheel but will need to pull the tractor apart because the clutch is at the max fo adjustment and will need a new one. Any thoughts on the starter why it would still be grinding?
Re: Yanmar 1401 starter
If the starter is the correct one and good then it would seem likely the flywhee ring gear. You might conseder looking it over some with the starter out.

I replied to your ticket about this also but sometimes low voltage will do that too. Bad connection, low/bad battery...

Re: Yanmar 1401 starter
Ring gear is completely trashed on the starter side ordered a new one today.
Re: Yanmar 1401 starter
You probably know how to remove and install ring gear but if here is instructions from 276 manual. 226 manual reads about the same.

Yeah I am guessing since it has been on so long it will need a lot of heat to break it off the fly wheel. Will update when the part comes in
