3 point hitch lift cylinder seal/ o ring replacement

Postby Fourwheelinj1 » Sat Nov 07, 2020 7:56 pm

I have a 240 that I acquired after it had been abandoned for years in the woods. After lots of work the tractor runs great. The only issue is the leak down on the 3 point hitch. I am pretty sure the seal on the lift cylinder is damaged and needs replacement. When I got the tractor the lift was stuck due to rust in the cylinder. What exactly is involved in removing the lift cylinder so that the seal/ o ring can be replaced? What parts need to be removed ? Can you just remove the piston cover and control valve to get the piston out or does the entire upper housing with lift arms and everything have to be removed?

I replaced the seal on my old 2002D and did take the whole housing off to do it. I also replaced the rockshaft seals at the same time. However, just looking at the parts drawing it would appear you could remove both the front and rear covers and maybe push the piston out the front. Would look like you could go on both sides of the crank lift (#43) and push the piston out the front. Your Even if it doesn't work you will have lightened the weight. That housing is heavy. https://www.hoyetractor.com/CTGY/2000HYDLIFT.htm

Found this, it is doable. https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/yan ... highlight=
