Re: TS start

Desert Dave - yes, right after 10 seconds of holding the key to TS

Winston - thanks for the informative article.

To test the element, should I test for an open circuit at the contacts to the element or remove the element and see if it heats on TS?

TS start

Hi guys - Major snows coming this week. I'll need the tractor for snow removal. In the cold, it takes 3-4 cycles of starting attempts, followed by resting the starter for a minute to restart. It will then finally start. I always spin the engine with decomp. and no throttle to distribute the oil. The...

Re: New-to-me YM1500D with some issues and questions

"when in 4 wheel drive, every few turns of the front wheels, it seemed to "skip", make a clanking noise, then catch and continue forward. " I'd pull the front driveshaft cover and inspect the splines for wear from "jumping." If there isn't enough spring tension or the s...

Re: New-to-me YM1500D with some issues and questions

Welcome to the forum from a fellow AZ resident!

"I recently purchased what I believe to be one of the earliest "green" Yanmar YM1500D's."

I'm puzzled - the images you posted clearly show a red YM. Was it re-painted?

Re: exhaust/muffler questions

More info needed. Is the hole in the new or old exhaust. P O might have drilled a hole to allow water to escape. Cannot imagine a hole in a new part. Not new. Might even be the original. Now I'm wondering if I need to JB weld this hole closed. Notes: the hole is about 1/8" and points directly ...

Re: exhaust/muffler questions

So, at the lowest curved part of the exhaust casting next to the flange, is the downward hole to let water out?
(in the event water enters the top of the stack)

Re: exhaust/muffler questions

There was no gasket, so I used Permatex Ultra Black Hi-Temp RTV Silicone Gasket Maker to connect the exhaust manifold plate (4 thru holes) to the block.

Muffler flange= exhaust manifold plate (4 thru holes)

exhaust/muffler questions

HI - I am installing my new 24" stack w/rain cap.

There is a hole (looks drilled) at the bottom of the muffler flange where it mounts to the block.
Is this by design?

Also, should I use hi-temp gasket/silicone where it mounts?

Thanks

Re: kinda off topic...

That is a very attractive price point for the Walmart oil. If you have a good service record with this oil, that is good enough for me.

I had looked at the Traveler oil at TSC, but no references.

Thanks again Winston!

Can anyone tell me why diesel tractor oil is far less expensive than gas engine oil?

Can you use diesel tractor oil like Castrol Diesel GTX in a gas engine?

I burn alot of oil in my 370,000 mile truck and just want a cheaper oil.

Castrol Diesel GTX @ $11.00
Regular (gas) GTX for $33.00.

Re: Yanmar 1500D Transmission Cover

While you wait for the pros to respond... DISCLAIMER: YOUR TRACTOR MAY DIFFER! Judging by your image, it looks like you are missing the driveshaft cover. On my 2010D, the driveshaft has a rubber seal at the end and the cover mates up with a diameter with an o-ring seal. Your oil probably is from a l...

Aaron's words are almost always correct. If I gave you my wife's phone number would you mind explaining this to her? It would save us so much time when we have a disagreement.  Please tell your dear wife I did say ALMOST always! But sure, call if you wish; my wife would sure would like t...

Re: 1510d lost front wheel power and hear grinding metal :-(

Aaron's words are almost always correct. Here is 2 cents from the new guy: My first question after your troubleshooting would be - were you in 2x4 or 4x4 when you rotated the wheels? If your dropbox was in 2x4, then there is binding. As I recall, the wheels will turn opposite when the driveshaft is ...
