Re: Yanmar 1610 Head Gasket Replacement Thread

Agree with leakage between water jacket and fire ring. Strongly encourage you to take head to a qualified shop and have them check and plane the head for absolute surface flatness. Once these things overheat they can warp ever so slightly. With my own head gasket repair from a few years ago, I made ...

Removing/cutting off rear tire YM1601D

Any tips/advice on how to remove 40 year old rear tires from a rim? I'm pretty certain the rims are a bit rusty but if they aren't too bad I'm going to have them sandblasted and powder coated before putting the new tires on. I've changed dozens and dozens of motorcycle tires but never anything this ...

Re: New battery, clean terminals on both ends- no turn over

Fixed. Pulled apart every connector and cleaned. Also upgraded the following: Positive and negative battery cables (both 1/0 AWG) New alternator New regulator Intended to swap keyswitch but the new one had screw connectors that were larger than the wiring eyelets on the yanmar, so I'll tackle that l...

You may also find some of the pictures in this thread useful, in knowing what is on the inside of the case (and why having it in 2wd or 4wd won't really matter).

Re: New battery, clean terminals on both ends- no turn over

Something weird happened last night. After testing for voltage at the switch and regulator with my multimeter, for kicks I turned the keyswitch on and the dash lights came on. Went ahead to try starting and the tractor started right up. The funny thing is that I changed absolutely nothing. Didn't di...

It's a brand new battery purchased one month ago. It's been on a trickle charger for 1 month inside my garage. Voltage read 12.70 a few minutes ago.

New battery, clean terminals on both ends- no turn over

Thought my old battery was dead since it stopped even trying to start my YM1601D. So I bought a new one (I use duralast gold batteries designed for diesel trucks), and the same exact problem happens. I cleaned and wire brushed both battery cable terminal ends (including the negative side that bolts ...

Re: Head gasket replacement - how to?

Quick update... I used the tractor in my yard for 30 minutes, then let it sit overnight. Checked head bolt torque a second time, and a couple of the middle bolts had to be cinched in just a smidge more (to 78 ft-lbs). Since then I put several hours of moderate use on the tractor this weekend mowing ...

Re: Replacing A Head Gasket

How many times should I retorque a new head gasket? I re-torqued the first time after warming up the engine for 10 minutes, then allowing it to cool back to room temp about 6 hours later. A few of the center bolts (which were brand new along with fresh chased threads) had to be torqued down a good b...
